"Brigade Electronics, leaders in vehicle safety systems, have teamed up with FLIR the world’s number one in thermal imaging camera technology, to provide night time drivers with greater vision using a military concept. The unique pathfinder thermal imaging camera detects differences in temperature, enabling drivers to see objects and pedestrians up to five times further than headlights, or as far as 800 metres in clear conditions"
What is a thermal Imaging Camera?
Thermal imaging cameras need no light whatsoever to produce a clear image. They operate even in the darkest of nights Every object emits thermal radiation, which is undetected by the naked eye but easily picked up by the passive infrared imaging camera. Any object which has a temperature different to the ambient measurement will be highlighted on the monitor, including; people, animals, wood, metal, debris on the road, road markings and changes in terrain.
The PathfindIR in action!
The FLIR Systems PathFindIR is a compact thermal imaging camera that significantly reduces the dangers of night time driving. The thermal imaging camera, the PathfindIR enables drivers to see much further than normal with improved clarity, than standard headlights. Drivers can detect and monitor pedestrians, animals or objects near the road allowing more time to react to any potential danger.
- Sees up to 5x further than headlights
- Produces a clear image in total darkness
- Helps to avoids accidents
- Is easy to install in existing vehicles
The PathfindIR thermal imaging camera or night vision camera as its more commonly referred to has been modified and can now be mounted to a recreational vehicle to help drivers see better at night. In the demonstration video above you can see the effect it has giving the driver far more time to react when using the PathfindIR thermal imaging camera or night vision camera.
The PathfindIR is also ideal for plant an emergency services vehicles where visibility it crucial. Due to the PathfindIR thermal imaging camera's ability to see through smoke an dust it makes it idea for quarrying and mining too.
